Are you following Jesus? Let me guess, you read that question and thought, “ha! Of course, I do!”
It’s not always that simple, my friend! It’s one thing to say, but it’s a whole different thing to believe.
Who is your favorite celebrity? Think about it. What does their life look like? Who’s their significant other? What are their go-to brands? Why do you follow them?
The point I am trying to get at here is that we live in a social media generation. There are many different opinions, pros, cons, and temptations. Isn’t it sad that we probably spend more time following the people we do on Instagram than we do Jesus?
Don’t worry, I am talking to myself too. We know more about The Hype House than we do about our Savior. Matthew 26:41 says, “watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Let that sink in! The SPIRIT is willing, but the FLESH is weak. We gain fleshly desires and temptations through social media. I am not saying social media is all bad but what I am saying is that if we don’t actively follow Jesus and absorb the living word, we will fall into those temptations.
Personally, I catch myself seeking acceptance from the number of likes, follows, and comments I receive on posts. But why do I not seek acceptance from the number of times God has forgiven me for my sins? We compare, envy, and belittle ourselves based on lies.
Nobody’s life is perfect because nobody on this Earth is perfect. We Christians are all imperfect people trying to serve a perfect God. He is the ONLY thing that is perfect.
